Eating
January 2, 2008 at 8:11 pm | In Bits & Pieces | 1 CommentHubby learnt early in our relationship that he needed eat in a more speedy manner if he actually wanted to have something to eat. I eat very quickly. And back in those days, was doing 5km a session in the swim pool, so had a lot of space to fill up.
Ad also eats quickly. Something he got from me so that he didn’t starve.
So, hubby now has the ability to eat very quickly and as we have had the kids, they have learned the same skill.
Hubby and I also appreciate that when we dine out, we only have a limited period of time where the kids will actually sit still. It’s a bit sad as the one thing that hubby and I love to do is eat out. I’ve noticed that when the kids aren’t with us, we can literally sit at a restaurant for hours. With the kids, our maximum period to dine is 1 hour.
Yep, that’s not a long period of time.
Recently, all of our favourite spots to eat have changed ownership. I hate it when that happens. The menu changes. The new owners don’t realise that we are those crazy people that turn up once a month with the family that seems to multiply and the child booster that we bring ourselves (I think people wonder why we bring our own seat for Moo as we never take the wheelchair with us). And once the children get too much, we abandon ship, suck whatever food is left off our plates, chuck the credit card at the host while we gather the kids to exit stage left.
We decided to try one of the restaurants tonight that wasn’t one of our faves but we had heard it had changed ownership.
It is now a definite fave.
I’m not sure that it started well. The tables were dressed so nicely, I thought that when they saw us they would turn their noses up at our brood.
Instead, they welcomed us. Then asked if we would like to put a children’s DVD on the big screen.
Okay.
I was thinking this is a bit alright when the host walked out with two sets of earphones – wireless – so that each boy could hear the movie playing.
Wow.
The menu didn’t seem to have any kids meals on it and we were wondering what the boys were going to eat when the host asked us if the boys wanted fish, chicken or steak.
Fish definitely.
Fried or grilled.
Grilled.
Their meals came before Master C could even mutter where’s dinner, I’m h-u-n-gry.
When the boys started eating, I was wishing that I had order fish too. Their meals were huge. And delicious.
Hubby and my meals were beautiful. Unfortunately the DVD only gave us another 1/2 an hour to enjoy dinner and we still had to suck down the tiramisu due to Master C dancing up and down the walkway and Moo chanting can we go home now, can we go home now, can we go home.
But, it makes a huge difference going to a restaurant that caters for kids. So much more relaxing.
We will be going again. Soon.

Extremely relieved to hear it’s not just our junior who does the can we go home now chant. He turns into a monster if we stay out after 7.30 so we now only go out for lunch. Sad, really. I’d like to see the stars again one day….
