The “R” Word

The blogesphere has been abuzz with talk about Ben Stiller’s new movie Tropic Thunder.  It is yet to be released in Australia, but uses inappropriate language, apparently to mock Hollywood.  Most object to the use of the “R” word.

I’m not going to subject you to another post on how important language is.  Clearly, the point isn’t reaching hollywood, who in one foul swoop can undo a decade of work in people first language.

So I’ll leave you with a youtube announcement that I found through a comment on Dave’s site.  I think it says everything.

  5. Thanks for the post & video. The video makes the point nicely. And, yes, in the US, Tropic Thunder premiered and promptly took the #1 spot in theaters. Sigh.
